How to track your clients' training progress
Updated July 25, 2026
Progress you cannot see is progress you cannot coach. If the only record of a client’s training is what they remember to tell you, you are guessing at the two things that decide the next session: what they lifted, and how hard it felt.

Let the client log the work
The cleanest record is the one made at the moment. When a client marks off their sets as they train, you open their week and see exactly what got done — not a reconstruction from a chat thread the next morning.
Watch effort, not just the numbers
The same weight is an easy day for one client and a grind for another. A quick effort rating on a session tells you whether to push the load next week or hold it — the judgement call at the centre of coaching, backed by something the client actually reported.
Keep the body metrics in one place
Weight and measurements drift slowly and mean nothing as a single reading — they are a line over months. Logged in the same place as the training, that line sits next to the work that produced it.
In CoachTrail clients log their sets, rate the effort, and record body metrics, and you see all of it against their plan. Start coaching free — your first three clients are on the house.
